, Prof. Dr. rer. nat.
Arbeitsgruppenleiter
Quirin Hammer studied Pharmaceutical Sciences and Molecular Medicine in Munich and Berlin from 2007 to 2013. In 2018, he obtained his PhD in immunology from the Humboldt University in Berlin under supervision from Prof. Chiara Romagnani at the German Rheumatism Research Center. After his PhD, Quirin joined the Center for Infectious Medicine at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm - first as a post-doc in the group of Prof. Karl-Johan Malmberg - and then established his independent team as Assistant Professor. In 2025, he was appointed W1 Professor at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein. Quirin’s main research interest lies in the functional regulation of innate and innate-like lymphocytes. His team explores the molecular determinants that enable innate and innate-like lymphocytes to recognize virus-infected, tumor-transformed, or stressed cells. An important aspect of the group’s work is understanding why this recognition occasionally is dysregulated, resulting in increased susceptibility to infections or the development of autoimmune pathology.
